Sailor Moon (美少女戦士セーラームーン, Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn, Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi.
One day in Juban, Tokyo, a middle-school student named Usagi Tsukino befriends Luna, a talking black cat who gives her a magical brooch enabling her to transform into Sailor Moon: a guardian destined to save Earth from the forces of evil. Luna and Usagi assemble a team of fellow Sailor Guardians to find their princess and the Silver Crystal.
Usagi Tsukino (月野 うさぎ, Tsukino Usagi; called Serena Tsukino in the original English dub of the first anime adaptation) is the titular protagonist of the series. She is a fourteen-year-old girl who is sometimes careless but has a great capacity for love, compassion and understanding. Usagi transforms into the heroine Sailor Moon, the Guardian of Love and Justice. At the beginning of the series, she is a self-described immature crybaby who resents fighting evil and wants nothing more than to be a normal girl. As the story progresses, she embraces the chance to use her power to protect those she cares about.
The Spiral Heart Moon Rod or Heart Moon Rod (ハート・ムーン・ロッド) was one of Sailor Moon's items. In the anime, it was a weapon born from the love of Usagi and Mamoru. In the manga and Sailor Moon Crystal, it was given to Sailor Moon by Neo-Queen Serenity. Sailor Moon used it to perform Moon Spiral Heart Attack and, after transforming into Super form with the Holy Grail, Rainbow Moon Heartache. In the SuperS season, it was upgraded to the Kaleidomoon Scope.
